Interview Guide Tips:
Prep, Prep, Prep
The single most important thing in any interview – be prepared. Understand your work experience, skills you can bring to the table, the position, the company, the whole package.
Be able to give the Interviewer a 2-3 minute synopsis of your skills and experience related to the position you’re interviewing for. This is a great support and provides direction for addressing those open ended questions which may sometimes leave you repeating yourself or at a loss for words.
You need to show an interest in the company and the position. The Candidate that is pumped up about the opportunity and wants to know more will win out over the Candidate that lacks interest and enthusiasm. These questions shouldn’t be based around salary, overtime, hours worked, and raises available… these types of questions are you showing an interest in things that benefit you versus showing an interest in ways that you can benefit the company. “What can I do for this company?” Questions about the position, responsibilities, reporting structure, systems & equipment used, and company history are all good places to start.
Know the Company
Don’t forget to research the company and where they are located. You don’t need to figure out the CEO’s favorite color or the sales figures of every office nationally; but having a general idea of the company and employee culture is ALWAYS a good idea.
